We had a great time taking a trip down to the Mekong Delta in late March. Check it out!

march 2010
Okay, so maybe we need to update this more than just once a year!

Our updates ended last May 2009. Last summer, we had a great time in San Jose spending lots of time with relatives and friends. We even saw a dear friend from Vietnam (Fr. John), who swung through San Jose on his was back from the East Coast. There was also the requisite camping trip to "the property," while Justo suffered from H1N1. Poor fella!

Back in Vietnam, we had a visitor in the Fall when Tita Janette came and spent a weekend with us. We had a terrific time showing her around, and she even took a trip down to the Mekong, coming face-to-face with a huge snake!

The Lunar New Year wouldn't be the same without the presence of the Mai Tam kids. We had a great time hosting them at our house again. As usual, pandemonium reigned.

Justo's birthday was celebrated at his favorite Japanese restaurant in Saigon: Sushi Bar 1. We also hosted movie night/sleepover with his friends. The highlight, though, was his gift: a tether ball! A rare sight in Saigon, indeed.

Our Thanksgiving dinner was spent at a Chinese restaurant in Singapore because we attended a Catholic Family Camp across the straits in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. It was a fun and challenging weekend. We even got to visit with Luna's 3rd grade teacher, who is now living in Singapore.

Martin again emcee'd the American Chamber of Commerce Christmas Gala. This included singing New York, New York and The Christmas Song! Pop would have been proud.

We had a wild Christmas party with our church friends in Saigon here at our home. Food, Bollywood dancing, fellowship, Christmas carols - it was a memorable gathering.

Sonia and the kids went ahead to San Jose for Christmas, while Martin stayed behind and hosted a Christmas party for the Mai Tam kids. Yes - pandemonium as always.

Christmas in San Jose was, of course, great fun. Martin was able to stay for Three Kings this year - yippee! It had been years. For something different, we spent a night in San Francisco, taking along Bapa, Tita Butch and Kuya Kike. We spent the night in style, staying at the Grand Hyatt in Union Square (thanks to miles!).

When Sonia and the kids returned, we spent a weekend in Khao Lak, Thailand - just a short flight from here. We did an elephant ride and enjoyed the beach. And Martin even got a busted eardrum!

As many of you know, the days leading up to Tet here in Vietnam are filled with activity and energy. They're very similar to the days leading up to Christmas in the US, though probably a bit more intense. There are parties, get-togethers and lots of displays. For Tet itself, however, a time traditionally spent with family, we spent the week hanging out in Manila. What a terrific trip!

As we count down the weeks before we leave, I know I speak for my whole family when I say that we are already beginning to miss Vietnam. We will miss, most of all, so many of the friends we've made here and the presence of God which we've felt here.

Enjoy the photos!
Love,
Son
