This is the Chao Phraya River, the main river that runs through Bangkok.
We hired that boat you see on the left to take us along the river.
The engine on this thing was a huge car engine attached to the pole that
steered the boat. You can kind of see the outline of the engine in
the picture - it's there at the end of the boat.
Part of the boat ride of course was getting cornered by a lone souvenir
vendor along the river and being essentially forced to buy useless souvenirs
at outrageous prices. Oh well. Our boat driver got a free soda
out of it from this lady.
This was at Wat Po - home of the vast reclining Buddha.
Another temple we visited was Wat Arun.
