The Pahiyas Festival was definitely a major highlight of our
two years in the Philippines. The town of Lucban celebrates the
feast
of San Isidro on May 14 of every year. Since the feast celebrates
- or prays for (not really sure) - a bountiful harvest, the
residents
adorn their homes with edible decorations. Everything on display
is
edible. The colorful paper is actually rice paper. This
little
town, nestled in the breathtakingly beautiful mountains of Quezon
province,
has a population of probably 50,000. During this festival, it
easily
swells to over a couple of hundred thousand.
Not really too sure what this guy was doing. He painted himself
and was dancing on a street corner. A rare sight in the
Philippines.
Baby Justo is in the stroller!
We were admiring one house when the owners waved Sonia over to take a
picture from their balcony.
Detail of the decoration.
Blocks and blocks of the entire town were
colorfully decorated.
